Saga is a flagship Android smartphone introduced by Solana Mobile, a subsidiary of Solana Labs, engineered to deliver distinct capabilities and a seamless experience integrated with the Solana blockchain. Built for the Web3 era, this device empowers users to securely and effortlessly conduct blockchain transactions and manage digital assets, including tokens and NFTs. Anatoly Yakovenko, Solana’s co-founder, noted that about 7 billion people worldwide use smartphones, and more than 100 million own digital assets. The Saga launch aims to redefine the mobile Web3 experience, accelerate mainstream crypto adoption, enhance user understanding, and unlock new opportunities.
The Saga launch event also introduced Solana Mobile Stack, a development framework tailored for Android. This platform enables developers to build advanced mobile experiences for wallets and Solana blockchain apps, and create a Secure Element for private key management. The Solana Mobile Stack SDK is now available for developers, empowering them to develop innovative Web3 apps on this foundation and ushering in a new era for Web3 mobile ecosystems.
Saga is designed and manufactured by OSOM, a company renowned for its expertise in computing hardware for technology leaders such as Google, Apple, and Intel. Saga delivers premium hardware: a 6.67-inch OLED display, 12GB RAM, 512GB storage, and the cutting-edge Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 mobile platform. Security features embedded in the chipset support the Seed Vault service within Solana Mobile Stack. Seed Vault’s innovation lies in its isolation of private keys, mnemonic phrases, and key data from the application layer, while retaining seamless interaction with apps and mobile browsers running on the device. This architecture significantly elevates asset security for users.
Saga has been available for pre-order, with deliveries slated for the following months. Reservations require a fully refundable deposit, applied toward the final price of $1,000 USD. To facilitate developer access to Solana Mobile Stack and Saga, developers receive reservation priority. Early adopters who purchase Saga have the chance to receive a Saga Pass, an NFT distributed with the initial Saga devices. Holders become the first to shape the direction of the SMS platform’s development.
